The Life and Ministry of Jesus: A Model of Love and Truth
At United Baptist Church, we believe that Jesus Christ is the perfect example of how we should live our lives. His earthly ministry was marked by love, compassion, teaching, and miraculous works that revealed the heart of God.
Teaching with Authority
From the moment Jesus began His public ministry, people recognized that He taught with divine authority. Unlike the religious leaders of His time, Jesus spoke with clarity, wisdom, and power that could only come from God.
“The people were amazed at His teaching, because He taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.” (Mark 1:22)
Jesus used parables—simple stories with profound spiritual truths—to help people understand the kingdom of God. He spoke about love, forgiveness, and faith, calling people to a deeper relationship with God. His teachings, such as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), continue to guide and inspire believers today.
Miracles and Compassion
Jesus’ ministry was filled with miracles that demonstrated God’s power and love. He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, made the lame walk, and even raised the dead. His miracles were not just displays of power but acts of deep compassion for those in need.
“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick.” (Matthew 14:14)
Beyond physical healing, Jesus also brought restoration to the outcasts of society. He touched lepers, dined with sinners, and showed kindness to those whom others had rejected. His love knew no boundaries.
Calling Disciples and Making Followers
Jesus called ordinary people—fishermen, tax collectors, and zealots—to be His disciples. He reached out to those who were willing to follow Him wholeheartedly.
“Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:19)
For three years, His disciples followed Him, learning from His words and actions. He prepared them to carry on His mission, teaching them that true greatness comes through servanthood.
Confronting Religious Hypocrisy
Jesus did not shy away from challenging religious leaders who misused their power. He called out hypocrisy and legalism, emphasizing that God desires mercy, justice, and genuine faith over empty rituals. His boldness in speaking truth made Him both loved and hated, yet He never compromised His message.
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill, and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.” (Matthew 23:23)
A Life of Prayer and Obedience
Jesus lived in constant communion with the Father. He often withdrew to pray, seeking God’s will before making decisions or performing miracles. His obedience to God was unwavering, providing us with the ultimate example of how to live in faith.
“Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing.” (John 5:19)
A Ministry That Continues Today
Though Jesus’ earthly ministry lasted only a few years, His impact has never faded. His teachings continue to transform lives, and His call to love God and love others remains at the heart of Christian faith.
At United Baptist Church, we strive to follow His example—teaching the truth, showing compassion, and serving others with humility. Join us as we seek to live out the ministry of Jesus in our community and beyond.
