His Death, Burial & Resurrection

Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus: The Victory of Salvation

At United Baptist Church, we believe that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our faith. These events were not just historical occurrences but the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan for humanity. Through His sacrifice, Jesus paid the price for our sins, and through His resurrection, He conquered death and offers eternal life to all who believe.

The Crucifixion: Jesus’ Willing Sacrifice

Jesus’ death on the cross was not an accident—it was the fulfillment of God’s plan to redeem mankind. As the perfect Lamb of God, Jesus willingly took upon Himself the punishment for our sins.

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

After being betrayed by Judas, falsely accused, and sentenced to death by the Roman authorities, Jesus was crucified between two criminals. Even in His suffering, He demonstrated love and forgiveness, praying for those who persecuted Him:

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

At the moment of His death, the temple curtain was torn in two, signifying that the barrier between God and humanity had been removed. Jesus’ sacrifice made a way for all people to have direct access to God.

The Burial: A Sealed Tomb

After Jesus’ death, His body was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb owned by Joseph of Arimathea, a secret follower of Christ. The tomb was sealed, and Roman guards were stationed to prevent any tampering.

“Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.” (Matthew 27:59-60)

For three days, it seemed as though death had won. But God’s plan was not finished.

The Resurrection: Victory Over Death

On the third day, when the women went to the tomb, they found it empty, and an angel proclaimed the good news:

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said!” (Matthew 28:6)

Jesus appeared to His disciples and many others, proving that He was alive! His resurrection is the ultimate sign of His power over sin and death, and it assures believers that we, too, will one day be raised to eternal life.

The Meaning for Us Today

Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection changed everything. Through His sacrifice, we are forgiven, and through His resurrection, we have the promise of new life.

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

At United Baptist Church, we celebrate the risen Christ, knowing that He is alive and reigning forever. Because He lives, we have hope, joy, and the promise of eternal life.

Join us as we worship our Savior and share His love with the world. He is risen! He is risen indeed!
